How to apply for special awards if you promote healthy food options, use locally sourced foods, make special provision for breast feeding mothers or those with a physical disability.
Healthier food options are important for many consumers when choosing where to eat out and for improving the overall health of residents. In recognition of this, Breckland Council has introduced the Healthy Options Norfolk (HONOR) Award scheme to reward those businesses that have added healthier options to their menu. The HONOR Award scheme is being adopted across Norfolk to promote the work of caterers who can demonstrate a commitment to promoting healthier choices and customer care. Also within the Award is the opportunity to achieve additional recognition by sourcing food locally, providing a breastfeeding friendly environment and acknowledging the facility as one offering good disabled access. You can apply for the extra awards at the same time, or at a later date, but you must achieve the main HONOR Award in order to be eligible. These simple steps can make all the difference for many customers.
The scheme is open to all food businesses with a Food Hygiene Rating score of 3, 4 or 5. To see your Food Hygiene Rating please check FHRS search on the Food Standards Agency website.
The application process is simple, involving the completion of a short questionnaire. Successful food businesses will receive a certificate, window sticker and recognition on Breckland Councils website. For more information please contact the Food and Health and Safety Team on 01362 656870 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
All catering establishments in Breckland with a satisfactory hygiene rating are eligible to apply for the HONOR - pubs, hotels, restaurants, takeaway outlets, workplaces, sandwich bars, school or hospital dining rooms.
The aim of the Award is for businesses to demonstrate their commitment to customer care through the provision of healthier food choices, to help reduce obesity and heart disease in the Breckland area. Further information can also be found for Norfolk Living Well
The Award was developed by Breckland Council and Norwich City Council in partnership with Trading Standards, Thetford Healthy Town, Pride in Breckland and Norwich City College.
