04/04/17: Construction of partnership's first houses almost complete
4 April, 2017
The construction of the first houses to be built by an innovative partnership in Breckland is nearing completion, with homeowners expected to move in over the summer.
This week, Breckland Council members, Breckland's Chairman, and representatives of The Land Group visited the development in Mileham, near Dereham, to see some of the finishing touches being put on the 11 brand new homes. There has been considerable interest in the two and three-bed properties and seven are already under offer before the project has reached completion.
The houses have been built on council-owned land adjacent to Burghwood Drive and are the first to be delivered by the Breckland Bridge partnership. The joint venture partnership, involving the council and developers The Land Group, recently delivered the £8m Thetford Riverside leisure complex which is trading well.
The 11 property site incorporates four shared-ownership houses, which are designed to help people on lower incomes to get into home ownership by offering the opportunity to buy a proportion of the house while renting the remaining percentage.
Cllr William Nunn, Breckland Council's Leader, said: "I was delighted to see the excellent progress being made to deliver the partnership's first housing development. The new houses will help to meet local housing demand and support the growth of the district and I'm sure they will make wonderful homes for local families in due course."
Director of The Land Group, David Winch remarked: "We are very pleased with the progress of this excellent housing project in Breckland and that considerable market interest has led to seven houses being under offer. It will be good to see the properties being occupied shortly.
"We are particularly satisfied that the four shared-ownership houses are under offer and that we have been able to help locals join the district's housing market."
The main construction of the houses is now complete and installation of internal fittings and gardens is now underway. The 11 houses are expected to be finished within the next month.
The new homes in Mileham are the first to be built on Breckland Council land for a number of years. The Breckland Bridge partnership has also recently submitted a planning application to build homes in Attleborough and further developments may be considered in the future.
