A bit about us:

At Breckland Council we have embraced the Government's agenda to modernise local government. Our approach is to lead change rather than follow it, and to add the best value we can to our communities. We achieve this by developing our employees to their full potential, providing them with the relevant knowledge, equipment and authority to carry out their duties.

Our employees enjoy excellent conditions of service including a local government pension scheme, free car parking and flexible working for a large percentage of our staff, as well as the possibility of 'job sharing'.

About you:

You are exceptionally well-organised, ensuring that everything you do is accurate and error free. You like to be well planned in everything you do and bring order to every situation. You enjoy working to challenging and ever changing deadlines. You keep going no matter how difficult things get, and use setbacks as a springboard for greater success. You are quite happy to take responsibility for your own decisions and accountabilities.

You like meeting new people and especially enjoy building relationships. You are very aware and caring of people's feelings and this allows you to quickly establish rapport. People like dealing with you because you make things easy for them to understand and you focus on and listen to what they say. You'll enjoy a role that, although challenging, is all about looking for ways to help people, dealing sensitively with customers who may be vulnerable and/or emotional and situations that may be challenging, demanding and stressful, but still require clear and logical decisions to be made to bring matters to an acceptable conclusion.

About the role:

You will:

  • advise clients on the range of housing options available to them, both by phone and face-to-face

  • assist and advise customers who are experiencing difficulties in accessing and using Breckland Key Select System

  • co-ordinate temporary accommodation bookings for homeless households

  • determine the circumstances of housing register applications and obtain any additional information from key agencies as required

  • undertake general office administration duties
