Private Sector Housing Officer Ref: 13-19

We are seeking a Private Sector Housing Officer to:

  • Assess and process grant applications

  • Carry out housing inspections and hazard assessments

  • Carry out monitoring, inspection and licensing of houses

  • Identify empty homes and facilitate their being brought back into use

  • Work with a diverse range of key partners and customers

  • Communicate complex matters in a way that our customers can understand

  • Organise and prioritise their own personal case load

  • A knowledge and understanding of:

    - Housing Act 2004

    - Environmental Protection Act 1990

    - The Housing Grants, Construction and Regeneration Act 1996

    - Public Health Acts

  • A professional, confident, and 'can-do' attitude

  • The ability to bring others round to your way of thinking and to win agreement in difficult circumstances

  • Exceptional communication skills, listening intently to what people are telling you and making your explanations easy to understand

  • The ability to work well to set guidelines, understanding and applying rules and Legislation

  • Great organisation skills. You know what you are doing, why you are doing it and why things are important allowing you to squeeze as much as you can into every minute of the day

  • Confidence working alone outside of the office and, when required, outside of usual working hours
