02/07/2019: Council offers extra boost to lottery groups

Breckland's community groups, sports teams and charities are being offered the chance to access a share of £40,000 which has so far been raised through the Our Breckland Lottery, the lottery run by the district council.

For every £1 ticket sold since the lottery launched in March last year, 10p has been put aside into a dedicated funding pot for the council to give back to local good causes. Now, local organisations signed up as a lottery beneficiary can apply for a one-off grant from that pot, of up to £1000. The offer is open to both organisations already signed up to the lottery and to new groups who register. The rest of the money from ticket sales sees 50p given directly to the player's nominated charity, 20p into a prize pot for players, and 20p on running costs.

Cllr Mark Robinson, Breckland Council's Executive Member of Community, Leisure and Culture, commented: "The Our Breckland Lottery is a fantastic way of supporting local community groups and charities who need valuable funds to continue operating, while giving players the chance of winning the £25,000 jackpot!

 "We continue to welcome new local charities to register as lottery beneficiaries and to help both prospective and existing groups better understand how the lottery works and how to increase players that are supporting them, the council is holding a series of free information sessions and I urge groups interested in finding out more to come along."

At the upcoming information sessions, officers will explain who is eligible to register as a lottery 'good cause', how to register, tips to sign up new players, and ways in which groups can promote their organisation.
