10/07/2019: Breckland show to portray 60 movies in 60 minutes

Silver Social - 60 films in an hour Breckland residents are being invited to see their favourite films like they've never seen them before, as a series of affordable daytime performances return to the district.

As part of Breckland Council's The Silver Social Project, contemporary dance company Spiltmilk Dance will be bringing their Desert Island Flicks show to Breckland villages throughout August, incorporating 60 of the most memorable movie moments of all time in just 60 minutes.

Audiences can expect to see blockbusters, adventure stories and rom-coms rolled into one, with special effects re-imagined, soundtracks switched, and just two performers playing all the parts! From timeless classics to modern day marvels, the show celebrates how iconic characters and thrilling plot twists have captured imaginations the world over, bringing people together to laugh, cry, and cheer along in a room full of strangers.

Last year, Spiltmilk Dance performed their show 'The Little Love Cabaret' at various community venues, which audiences called "fun" and "entertaining", as part of The Silver Social.

The programme of daytime touring arts workshops and performances is aimed at older people but open to all and held in community venues across Breckland. The project, which is run by Breckland Council and funded by Arts Council England, Breckland Council and Norfolk County Council Public Health, was created to give people a chance to socialise and engage in different forms of art, which can help tackle issues such as isolation and loneliness in rural communities.

Cllr Mark Robinson, Breckland Council's Executive Member for Community, Leisure and Culture, commented: "This show has something for everybody as it draws on films and stories that people will be familiar with and is full of laughs and opportunities to get involved. Our previous Silver Social events have proven very popular, with many being fully booked, so I urge people to reserve their place as soon as possible to avoid missing out. Our events provide a great opportunity to try something new and meet new friends, so we look forward to welcoming some familiar faces to the show as well as some new ones."

The performance will be running from August 5-9 (2-3.30pm) at:

  • Monday, 5 August - Ashill Community Centre
  • Tuesday, 6 August - Harling Old School Village Hall
  • Wednesday, 7 August - Attleborough Town Hall
  • Thursday, 8 August - Shipdham All Saints Church
  • Friday, 9 August - Necton Community Centre

Tickets are £5 each which can be paid on the door, however people are advised to reserve their place in advance viawww.thesilversocial.com or by calling 01362 656870.
