What is a Pavement Licence?

As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic the Government has introduced a new way of applying for this permission that is faster and cheaper but is for a time limited period. This is known as a Pavement Licence under the Business and Planning Act 2020.

This application takes seven days (not including Bank Holidays) and costs £75.00 and will last until the 30 September 2021 (unless changed by the Government).

The information you need to provide is similar to the Tables and Chairs licence:

  • Application form
  • Public Liability insurance (minimum £5,000,000)
  • A plan showing the exact location and dimensions of the area of the licence
  • The location of the furniture within that area
  • A description of the use and type of furniture etc

There is a set ofnew conditions for this licence adopted by Breckland Council. These conditions may be subject to alteration or addition depending upon any individual applications.  If your application is not determined within seven days after the seven-day consultation period your licence is deemed granted with these conditions attached.

The Pavement Licence Procedures can also be viewed online.
