District Wide Shop Front Design Guide - Consultation

We are inviting the public to share their feedback on the Shopfront Design Guide (DRAFT) 2025 (PDF, 10 MB)(opens new window)

The guide has been developed for the whole district and aims to ensure the preservation and enhancement of historic features in the shopfronts of all our market towns across the district. The guide provides practical advice to support businesses, developers, and planners in creating high-quality, historically sensitive shopfront designs that contribute to the character and visual appeal of local areas.

This document is part of a wider effort to protect the heritage of our market towns and helping our high streets thrive. By preserving their historic charm, we aim to make these areas more attractive and successful for residents, businesses, and visitors.

After the public consultation and once approved, the District Wide Shop Front Design Guide will become official planning policy, guiding future developments and restorations.
