Investing in your Town

We're all about making a real difference in our market towns, and that's exactly what the Future Breckland Town Delivery Plan is all about. Through this initiative, we're working to support our communities, helping them grow, become more sustainable, and ensuring a better quality of life for everyone. Our goal is to make sure every town has what it needs to flourish, not just now, but for years to come.

Future Breckland:  Thriving People & Places is all about creating a strong, shared vision for the future of our district, built on solid research and meaningful community input. By focusing on our five market towns—Attleborough, Dereham, Swaffham, Thetford, and Watton —we've identified impactful projects that can truly transform the area. This vision isn't just about today; it's about future-proofing our towns so they continue to thrive. It also means Breckland Council and its partners can attract new funding and make sure our resources are used in the best possible way for the benefit of everyone.

"By creating a shared vision, local organisations can align their priorities and ensure we are all pulling towards the same goal. This will ensure Breckland's success going forward and put us in pole position when it comes to bidding for national funding, which can be spent making the district even better for our residents and businesses." - Cllr Sam Chapman-Allen, Breckland Council's Leader.

Breckland's market towns are at the heart of its vibrant community, where nearly half the population calls these charming areas home. Each of the five historic towns—Attleborough, DerehamSwaffham, Thetford, and Watton—offers its own unique blend of heritage, character, and tradition. From picturesque high streets lined with historical buildings to local markets that have stood the test of time, these towns provide a rich experience for both residents and visitors alike.

In March 2024 the initiative was named as a finalist in the Community Engagement category of the MJ Awards, in recognition of its success so far
