Pine Close Community Centre demolition

Updated August 2024

The Community Centre building on Pine Close, in Thetford, was built some years ago and is now at the end of its usable life. In recent months the council has been assessing the condition of the building, including commissioning a specialist, independent review, which has found that the building is irreparable and a potential risk to the public. Local residents may be aware that part of the roof recently collapsed.

As a result, Breckland Council has made the difficult decision to demolish the building. Additional fencing is currently (mid-August) being installed around the site to help ensure the safety of local residents. Over the coming weeks, preparatory work will be undertaken on the site, before the building is subsequently demolished.

The building is currently not being used by any tenants and has been empty for some time so this change means local services will not be disrupted. The site was last used in November 2023 and Breckland Council recognises the previous tenant was well-valued by the local community and they have since relocated nearby.

Until further assessments and the demolishment work is undertaken, it will not be clear as to how the site may be potentially used in the future, so this will be given further consideration as that information becomes available.

Please check this page in the coming weeks for any further updates.
