08/04/22: Still time to bid for a Platinum Jubilee grant

Groups in Breckland are being urged not to miss out on the opportunity to secure funding from the district council which could help them celebrate the upcoming Platinum Jubilee.

Breckland Council's Platinum Jubilee grant scheme is offering up to £500 to help community groups and voluntary organisations hold celebration events and initiatives celebrating Her Majesty the Queen's 70-year reign.

This could be:

• A community street party, picnic, or barbeque event organised as part of the national Big Lunch initiative.
• The lighting of a beacon to mark the occasion.
• Another initiative held either over the four-day Bank Holiday weekend in June or later in this anniversary year.

However, time is running out to submit a bid, with the application deadline set at 17:00 on Monday, 11 April.

Cllr Alison Webb, Breckland Council's Executive Member for Housing, Health & Communities, commented: "We're delighted to offer this funding to local groups to support them in holding events which bring together our communities in celebration of The Queen's amazing reign and service to our country."

The grant scheme is open to constituted community groups, voluntary organisations, charities, community interest companies (CICs), and schools holding events which engage with the wider community. It could be used to pay for insurance, road closures, event notices, Big Lunch materials, beacon event costs, or event promotion.

The council is also marking the Platinum Jubilee in other ways, including organising a high street trail, which is due to launch in May, and a bursary scheme launching in June. The latter will provide financial assistance to individuals who might otherwise struggle to access further education.
