Dereham Conservation Area Appraisal - Consultation

We are inviting the public to share their feedback on the draft Dereham Conservation Area Appraisal (PDF, 70 MB)(opens new window).

A Conservation Area is defined as "an area of special architectural or historic interest the character of which it is desirable to preserve or enhance". In Dereham, the Conservation Area was last reviewed in 1974, and your views are essential in ensuring that the update reflects the changes in the town's-built environment, historical significance and conservation needs.

This document is part of a wider effort to protect the heritage of our market towns and helping our high streets thrive. By preserving their historic charm, we aim to make these areas more attractive and successful for residents, businesses, and visitors.

As part of this document the draft appraisal is making the following proposed boundary changes:

  • Areas proposed to be removed from the Conservation Area boundary due to their limited historic and architectural interest include
    • The golf course
    • Northgate High School Playing field
    • Quebec Hall
    • Vicarage Meadows Road
    • Heathfields and Humbletoft
  • Areas proposed to be included in the boundary:
    • Park Road
    • London Road School
    • Commercial Road
    • Norwich Road and Industrial Buildings.

After the public consultation and once approved, the Conservation Area Appraisal will become official planning policy, guiding future developments and restorations.
